Changine Fuel Pump, Need Help Quickly
Changine Fuel Pump, Need Help Quickly
Okay guys, some of you may read about the problems my car has been giving me over the past 3 weeks. Finally, we're 99% sure its the fuel pump. 2 weeks ago it tested at 44PSI. Yesterday it barely tested at 40PSI so I am fixing to go outside with my fiance and we are replacing the Fuel Pump.
Neither of us have done it this way so ANY advice & tips on how to make this easier or what we need to drop vs. dont need to drop would be VERY helpful A/S/A/P. Tried doing a search on it, but dont really have the time to sit here and read thru 600+ topics to find what we need. Will be checking back on the board on occasion to see if anyone has offered any kinda help. Thanks a Bunch in advance. :hail: :hail: :hail:

First of all, you need to tell us what engine , year, make, etc you have, for whoever didnt read the other posts about your cars' problem.
44PSI??? That sounds very high, but if you have a tuned port, I woudnt know. Last I heard, for the 305 4bbl and TBI's, FP was around 9 to 11PSI, but I could be wrong.
If you have the LG4 or the L69, you are in luck. As far as I know, the fuel pump is located on the bottom front passenger side of the engine, but if you have TPI or TBI, then its gonna be a whole new story. I just swapped mine about 2 weeks ago, so if you have one of these, let me know, I'll be glad to help you out.
Another thing, I dont know what your determining factor was that made you decide it was the fuel pump that was the problem, but for me, my car would barely stay running. It would idle, and a little more, say to 2 grand or so, then after that it would basically run out of gas. I could restart it, rev to high RPMs, then it would run out of gas again. I drove it all the way home from college (2 hours away) at basically a little more than an idle the whole way, and I just barely made it home. It shut off on me numerous times, and I thought it was the end. But she had just enough in her left to make it home. Needless to say, I went out the next day and tried to start it, and it woulndt push enough pressure to even start it.
Anyhow, little story there about how my pump went out.

I'm sorry, its a '91 Camaro RS 3.1L V6.
First off it will barely start when cold, now it will start just fine when engine is hot. On the Fuel pressure gauge it tested at 44PSI 2 weeks ago, yesterday it tested at 40PSI, shouldn't of dropped that much, if any, over 2 weeks time frame. Did a bleed test on it over night and it dropped to 0. What led us to believe it was Fuel Pump, was it not wanting to start, and also the engine started stumbling while at a steady speed. It heastates while taking off from a dead stop. I'll try to find my orginal posting on all of its problems to show what all has already been changed and bring it back to the top as well for reference if anyone needs it. Thanks again
