Distributor Squeaks

Title says it all ...

90 305 TBI LO3
In the morning when I start the car, and until it warms up, the distributor squeaks. Sounds like your pet hamster running in that old squeaky metal exercise wheel. I replaced cap, rotor, and the electronic doo-hicky inside, and it still squeaks! (doo-hickey is a very technical term, not to be confused with thing-a-ma-jig).

Can anyone tell me what's the deal and what to do?

why do you tihnk it's the distributor? how did you trouble shoot it? i'd suspect an accessory is your problem. if you never try eliminating everything on the front of the engine and start it and see if the sound goes away.

It's definitely distributor - my automotive stethescope whispered in my ear what the trouble spot was.

I actually haven't listened to it with the stethescope after warm-up to see if there is still a squeak that is undetectable without the stethescope - I'll do that today and post results.

WOW! Wellston OH!!! I lived there as a kid. Went to the elementary school for grades 1, 2, 3 - lived in a trailer park at the bottom of the hill that the elementary school sat atop of, and was in love with a little red haired girl (sounds like Charley Brown) 3 trailers down. Mom & Dad used to take us to Dairy Queen on Saturday evenings for bananna splits. Small world eh?

I've had a couple of tbi chevy trucks with squeeky distributors. Work on alot more trucks than 3dgens but the parts should be the same.. On both rigs it appeared that the distributor had gotten gunked up with hardened oil, preventing the bushing from being lubed. This wore out the bushing and it started squeeking.

On one other truck, the rotor hadnt been pushed all the way down. This caused it to rub the cap making a plastic squeeking noise for awhile(at least until everything started melting).

On the 2 with the bad bushings, I just replaced the distributors and the trucks were on their way.. Still running today.
