My rear defroster is not working as well as it should

For the last month or so, my rear defroster is really slow to get the rear window to where I can see out of if. When I got the car it worked great, would clear it up in about 5 minutes. But now, it takes about 15-20 minutes. It is really a pain in the ****. Is there something fairly easy to check? Can I replace something with little cost?
Any help would be appreciated.
Brian

Check the voltage between the 2 wires that go to the gas struts to hook it up.
