Possible to short out ALDL?

This is a carburated 1984 2.8L V6.
I had hooked up a custom cable, to run WinALDL on the computer. I had managed to get raw data before I accidently pulled on the cable, breaking off one connection...I cleaned the broken connecter but now I can get nothing from WinALDL...the only error code I seem to get as well is 12. So is it possible I shorted out somepart of the computer, or since I get the code of 12 is there some other reason as to why I can not get data?

Help?

Well, code 12 means the diagnostic system is functioning properly... You mention cleaning the broken connector...did you replace it or straighten it out? Maybe it's not working and causing the cable to not work now.

I broke the end of the wire on my cable off in the ALDL, I cleaned all the little wire chunks out.. THere was no damage to the ALDL connector itself...
As for the cable, I have restripped it, and verified it still works in another car....just can not get any information from this one.

Only thing I can think of is that you somehow damaged the connector pin on the ALDL itself...doubt it's possible to short one out without some real trying....
