89RS,

With an '87 Z-28, the statisics indicate that there is a high probablility the car has a borg Warner axle. The common ratios offered with those were 2.77:1, 3.27:1, and 3.45:1. If the axle center housing rear cover has nine bolts, it's an Austrailian Borg axle (lucky you!).

If the cover has ten bolts, it's a Saginaw axle (not quire as lucky you). Saginaw produced 2.73:1, 3.08:1, 3.23:1, and 3.42:1 axles for that year.

Our own beloved site reference ( https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml ) missed the fact that many WS6 cars came with the 2.77 Borg axle.
