Two things:

1. You dont have a "rack and pinion" setup. No third gens do unless its a custom job.

2. You have either destroyed or are in the process of destroying your gear box. It needs lubrication, which the power steering pump provided. Hook that thing back up. The amount of power your losing by actualy using it is minimal. If you want to go to manual steering then go find a s-10 box and do the swap. Your not saving any weight by not using the power steering pump. The s-10 box will shed some pounds from your car though.

Either one of the shocks is totally blown out or you left something loose in the steering linkage. Even if the box was a totally worn out POS it wouldn't have violent wheel shake. Deactivating the P/S won't have any effect on any of this- it just makes the sheel harder to turn. Something's gotten loose on you.

Shake

Just went thru this with a '91 Z Make sure your idler arm is tight (no movement). I changed it and still had the shake, then I noticed the mouting holes are slotted so I loosened the bolts pushed the arm all the way up and tightened the bolts. The shake went away.
