Lucas Oil --- Good or Bad?

I posted this on camaroz28.com but I figured people here could lend a hand, as well as it being good reading..

Keep in mind I have a '95 LT1, but how oil performs should be similar...

Normally people see "additives" as bad things, at least people with some knowledge. Examples such as fuel injector cleaner or engine oil stop leak....

Anyway....anyone ever see Lucas Oil? You can use that stuff in rear ends or crankcases, so it says. Anyone ever use it? I used a half quart in my last oil change, and I recently changed my oil (to pure mobil 1 again) and I noticed that without hte lucas oil the car ran much better at cold temps. I do have a quart of lucas oil in my rear end...anyone think I should dump it?

on bottle it states not to be used with synthetic oils. not a good thing to do. i'm not sure what you mean runs better at cold temps w/o it? as for the quality of the lucas additive, it's pretty good. it quiteted a knocking noise on start-up.

i am gonna guess Lucas Oil is just a bottle of synthetic oil of some sort. like maybe a super concentrated mixture or something..

I use Lucas Motor Oil Stabilizer in my car. I don't notice a difference like you do. Its not really meant for HP. I know it does its job though. I just say its better to use it than go without. I don't know about the whole synthetic thing. The bottle says it blends with ATF, Mineral oil, and Synthetic.

I always saw Lucas as just a thick oil. Thick oil will make your car run kinda bad until it warms up when you're in a cold climate like jersey.
Hell, my beretta has a little bit of a problem with 10w-30 in the winter. I go to 5w-30 and no more problem.

Dude, I changed my oil this morning from 5w-20 to 10w-30 and I thought I forgot some pieces. Man I used to always run 10w-30 but I went a long time before changing(so it was good and black and smelly). Then I changed to 5w-20 and couldn't really feel a difference, until I added Z-Max. When I added Z-Max I really gained about 30-40hp(Z-Max is a steel lube that goes in your oil and gas). Well, I changed my oil this morning thinking it would run smoother. Wrong, when I moved back up to 10w-30 it ran like crap(real bad lean spot after it comes off idle, real sluggish now). I'm thinking about adding some tranny fluid to raise the viscosity a bit.

Can't say anything about the Lucas oil, but I can say I put half a bottle of Lucas Slip Fix in the transmission (it's shifting hard but not missing any gears) and it cushioned all of the shifts a tad...not a whole lot, but can't expect too much from half a bottle.. Point is, I couldfeel it!
