backfire

will a good tune up fix a backfire or could it be the timming? I have an 86 camaro 305 and it has only backfired once. I appreciate the help

Yes to both. My car was igniting in the exhaust. I upgraded the ignition coil, cap, and rotor and it fixed my problems. But, if your timing is way off, that will cause backfiring. Another thing to check is exhaust leaks.
