Is a Flat Tappet Lifter... all the same?

I'm going to buy the Comp Cams XE268H-14 and the Cam doesn't come with lifers. The motor I have now has brand new flat tappet lifters from a "GM 300 horse Cam." So I was wondering if I needed to buy the specific new Comp Cams Lifters... or use the ones I've got now.

You can run them if they haven't been run before.

IIRC, the "XE" means it's one of their Xtreme Energy cams, correct?

Those cams have a very aggresive cam profile, and CompCams recommends that you use their lifters because of it (as well as their valve springs).

I don't know what the diff could be, other than the shape of the lifter face. Maybe they're lighter? Maybe they have a different "pump up" rate? I dunno, but if I was spending the money for that cam, I'd make sure I called them and ask them. The worse that can happen is they'd say "No".

The last XE cam I had, came from Comp with Sealed Power lifters.

I don't know who GM buys theirs from; but as long as they're new, and all the usual procedures are followed for break-in, they should be fine. Of course, if something wipes out, Comp may well decline to warranty it; it's your own risk.

Good Call. I havn't priced the cam directly from Comp... but Summit wants $120 for just the cam and then $90 for the lifters. The springs I have should be fine, they are going to be the upgraded vortec heads.

Thanks for the phone number... I'll definatly give them a call.
