Hi,
I have an 89 iroc with a newer 350 crate motor. The air compressor has siezed-up 3 times in 6 months. Added refrigerant helped once but not now. It is locked tight.
Want to leave on but somehow gut so it spins free. That way I can leave the same size Serpentine belt in place. Wouldn't have to fool around with the belt tensioner (it would be in wrong place without the ac unit).
Any suggestions or ideas on what to do?

 

replace the compressor, or the clutch

 

Have replaced compressor twice plus added refrigerant once.

 

Did you happen to add any refrigerant oil either of those times?

 

Yes. Bought can with first trade in. Now would like to run without but can't figure out best way.Trying to leave same set-up and just have the compressor free-wheel, any suggestions?

 

You can get an a/c delete pulley cheaper than a new compressor. Try a search.
