alternator question step inside
My thought is a bad alternator would make a car run bad since all of the ignition stuff is run of electric and if a battery goes dead from not being charged there is no electric for the ignition what do you guys and gals think
what? nobody wants to add to this or comment. I guess my question was how much does the engine rely on power from the battery? in a carburated engine without a computer.
hey hotroddn
well it runs really well on a fully charged battery. When my battery was dyeing due to the bad alternator it started running really crappy and I was wondering if it was battery/alternator related or just coincidence

Well you ignition needs power to send to your plugs to spark so if your battery was running real low yes it would send a weaker spark until your car would finally not run.
yup thats what I figured. My alternator was making a loud squealing noise and sometimes it would charge and sometimes it wouldnt I gues now it crapped out on me lol more money more money. The car runs great on full charge though so another piece of the puzzle solved

Output of the coil is proportional to the voltage at the primary-12 volts. However, normally on an electronically managed engine when the cars voltage gets low it affects the ECM operation. The drivers in the ECM as well as all the components will operate best with 12 volts. A typical TG will run well on as low as 10 volts, after that things get goofy. A good fully charged battery and a working alt are a must these days.
