how to check codes?
How do i check codes? I've searched this site but only come up with nothing. Tons of people talk about codes, but i havent found one person that says how to check them.
Im new to mechanics and camaros. I am working on a 83 z28 crossfire injected 305. I just got finished changing out the fuel tank and fuel pump. Wow that was a job. Taking out the tank was nothing compared to fitting that tank back up with enough room to fit the straps.
The pump works great. But now i cant unscrew the old fuel filter off. Is there a trick to unscrewing these things???? I tried till the sun went down but didnt budge. If i tried turning really hard the metal fuel line begins to bend. What shall i do? Im so excited to get this car running finally.
I bought the car from a junk yard with little knowledge of the cars past. Ive been wanting to check codes just to see if anything else is wrong with it that i havent already covered.

Second to the last question (bottom of the page.)

If so, take it somewhere. I had a hell of a time with mine, and paid $40 to have a shop do it. I figured it was well worth it considering if they messed it up, they'd have to fix it.

of course i was using two wrenches. But the metal fuel line will give before the bolt unbolts. And the car is not drivable yet. You should have seen the shape the fuel lines to the gas tank were in. There was about 3 inches of mud inside the gas tank. And after i change tank and pumps i let fuel run through the lines till it was clear. About ten fifteen mins. I pump out all sorts of things out of the lines. Now its pumping clear. And the next step is the fuel filter. I might just have to twist the sucker off and replace the lines. Hope i dont screw anything up.
It sucks that my car is so far away. About 40 miles. My wifes grandfater has a used car lot with a garage. And till i get it running i have to leave it there. It would cost me more to tow it home than it cost me to buy the car. SO once this filter is in place i hope that it runs back to my house.
I still am looking on how to check codes. And a list of what codes are.
Thanks

i'd try some liquid wrench or other penetrant, but you might be better off getting new lines, since the insides might be fairly corroded too...
at least on my '92, neither of the nuts was actually bound to the line so it couldn't rotate freely. they're affixed to the filter, but it's basically a nut that slides on the line and can't fall off because of a slight flare on the end. so there may be something more going on if your line is bending when you turn.
