i took my car to get inspected today with the smog pump on but no belt on it and it passed!! i guess they either didnt notice the missing belt or just dont care.....afterwards i removed the pump itself but left the tubing on...the reason is that there is some sort of sensor/wire goin into this little canister on the passenger side...the canister has the hose on it that went to the smog pump...can i get rid of it or what?
Well I suppose it's still possible for you to pass the emissions test without the smog pump if your engine is running clean enough; that means all the plugs are in good shape, cap/rotor clean, nice clean air filter and a carburetor that's in tune with the engine.
As far as removing the pump, the plug going into the back of the pump will not create any adverse affects being unplugged. Go ahead and take the whole pump out.
