RPM jumping

Every now and then my tach starts bouncing back and forth and my dash lights flicker...something grounded out? Also where does the speedo connect? I've been told it's electronic..so does that mean it doesn't connect to the tranny?

BTW 92 RS

check the wiring to and/or the condition of your alternator. A bad alternator will make the tach jump around.

Agreed. I've seen those same symptoms on a few different occasions. Check the connections to your battery first, since that's the easiest fix. Make sure they are tight and corrosion free. However, since you don't mention any starting problems, the problem is more than likely your alternator. Once they start to go, you'll have things like a jumpy tach, engine rpm drops significantly with blinker/headlight use, and dimming in all of your lights.

On a 92, the speedo cable should connect to the rear of the trans, and yes, I believe it is an electronic connection.
