Oil Pan/Pump Suggestions

the search is dead. im building a 383 and im going to run slp 1 3/4" headers and was wondering which oil pan you guys have used. im concerned about clearance issues with the y pipe and the car is lowered, and i dont want ground clearance problems.

well first of all the the stock oil pan has less than desireable oil capacity. Second of all it has not nearly enough trap doors and baffles to keep the oil where it has to be. The oil will run forward in the stock pan upon braking. I have the Milodon kick out pan with high oil capacity. There is slight clearance problems with the y pipe on my TES and I had to get a smaller y pipe. Looking at it now with slight dimpling of the exhaust pipe it will probably fit. I just wanted to get it moving last summer. On another note the pan rails clear the stroker and they are very sturdy and not likely to warp. You do need a new pickup with this pan. Also with the oil cooler my car required SLIGHT dimpling of the poil pan to get the filter to fit. I tapped it with a tiny ball peen and couldn't even tell I dented it but then the filter fit. Overall a great pan but y pipe wrk will be necessary.

why would it be less than desirable for a street machine? The surface area to lubricate has not changed at all. Hmm what did they use on stock 400's? Maybe that pan has a larger capacity and more baffles.

if you want a top of the line oil pan gat one from hamberger. you never ask in the thread but did in the title about pumps, get a m55 melling and a #26 spring from me gasket. picp up from moroso maybe? and weld a brace from the pick up to the pump and bolt it to the pump.

I run the old early-70s Z28 pan for a 6-quart system, a Moroso windage tray, and the exact same pump/spring combo that ede mentioned; except I use a Melling screen. Fits everything. No clearance problems whatsoever.

Of course this is on a driver-side-dipstick block.
