drivebelt tensioner

I have an 86 Trans Am. One of my belts is way too loose, but I can't figure out how to tighten it. I don't see a tensioner for this belt. It's the smallest one that connects to the Air Conditioner, on the right side of the engine bay, looking at it from in front of the car. Please help, I can't stand this chirping and squealing anymore!!!!

'Cane,

On an '86 TA, the air conditioning compressor is on the left side of the engine. The smallest belt is used to drive the A.I.r. pump, which IS located on the right side of the engine (passenger side). Which one is it?

ok, it's the one on the right I guess. It's on the driver's side of the engine compartment. I just figured that was the air conditioner.

The driver's side is commonly referred to the LEFT of the car. That would indeed make it the air conditioning compressor. There are four bolts holding the AC compressor in place. Two of them are on the back of the compressor brackets.

I wish the search feature was working, since I just wrote a long reply with step-by-step instructions about a week ago. It's really pretty straightforward. There is a square hole in the top of the AC bracket to accept a 1/2" breaker bar or ratchet to help tension the belt while you tighten the anchor bolts.

what was the name of the post, and the person who started the post? I can manually search for it by going through each page. It's a lot of work, but hey, I really want to fix that damned squeeling!!! Thanks.
