swap distrubutor?

I have a Z28 with the ext. coil. I purchased a distributor with the internal coil. I also have the crane hi 6sbox. How can i change the distributor from the ext. unit to the internal unit? the ext. distriubtor has two plugs in the back and an ext coil. The new uint has a coil in the cap, and two spots where some conntections go to? I have no idea how to do this???

Year?

Induction?

Stock, or "re-engineered"?

The in-cap coil distributor requires one exteral wire to operate - 12 VDC switched to the "Batt" terminal (molded into the top of the extension of the cap/coil cover). The distributor itself has a harness that goes to the terminals closer to the center of the cap. The "Tach" terminal needs to have the original tach wire connected to it in order for the tach to work (I forget the color of the wire for external-coil distributors).

Sorry, I did not think that would matter too much. It's a 91 z28 (map sensor not maf), 355cu in. afr 190 heads, slp intake runners with ported plentum, svo injectors, tes headers, 3in cat back flowmaster, crane hi-6s ignition, zz3 cam. The only difference from the stock engine and the new is the afr heads and zz3 cam, plus the forged internals.

One reason induction makes a difference is computer- vs. non-computer control. Another is that TPI used the external coil distributor because the in-cap type was too big to fit in the space left by the plenum/runners.

Most performance HEI in-cap coil distributors are non-CC. Does the one you purchased have a vacuum canister on the base? If so, it is a non-CC type and will not work with your application.

five7, Thanks for the effort! turns out, i can't use it I'm just trying to rule thing out. I have this on going problem. Recent rebuild, the car seems only fast as it was stock? 1mo after the new engin was put in, it opened up! I had tons of power. 4mo. later, I put my supercharger back on and blew a head gasket and my fuel psi regulator went bad. I tore it down, had the heads checked for cracks. NO crackes, everything was OK. Put it back together and now it has no power again....but it runs fine? Souunds fine too? No codes, good fuel psi, no vacume leaks, spark is good, new ignition parts ( module, plugs, wires, cap and rotor). timming is advancing too. I thought it would be worth a try to put a different distributor in and see if that was the culpurate. Guess not.

Thanks again!
