How to check MAF and Oxygen sensor?

Hey, I'm still working on getting my camaro to run properly. By properly I mean with the timing 6 - 8 degrees before TDC, 750rpm in park, no gasoline smell out of the tailpipes, and no hesitation on the acceleration. Here are the specs and what I've already done-

1986 z28 Camaro
305 TPI
New spark plugs, rerouted Spark plug wires
replaced and calibrated throttle position sensor
new idle air control
I've also set the timing and the "throttle screw" located at the top of the engine.

Whenever I press the gas down quicker than VERY gradually, the engine sounds like it dies. I am assuming the air/gas mixture isn't right, so have been looking at the parts controlling the mixture.

I have thought of trying to use the ECM, but it doesn't work (light up at all, even when I crank the engine) and I haven't figured out why.

My question is,
How do I test the Manifold Air Flow (MAF) sensor and the oxygen sensor to make sure they're good.

I'll take any other suggestions people may have.

Thanks,
Chris

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) and Oxygen (O2) sensors can be tested with a scan tool. Have you checked to see if the SES light bulb is good?

Another possibility is to use an analog meter or test lamp in place of the MIL on the dash. Connect one lead of a meter or test lamp to a +12VDC source. Connect the other lead to the 'D' terminal on the ALDL connector, then jumper the 'A" and 'B' terminals and read the error codes on the meter or lamp.
