can I remove my air pump and keep the a/c on my 88 305?
can I remove my air pump and keep the a/c on my 88 305?
I just bought a 1988 camaro w/ a TBI 305. it has headers and i noticed that there is an opening on the back of the air pump that just pumps out air giving it a exhaust leaking sound, which is lame sounding at higher rpms. I'm sure that removing the pump is the logical thing to do but it seems to be in the same housing as the a/c compressor and the a/c works great. I also have a 80 z28 w/ no a/c and it would be nice to have at least one car that I wont bake in this summer. Is there any kind of after market bracket or I was thinking about taking off the pully and as much off of the front of the air pump as i can but im not sure by eyeballing it if the new belt would clear the face of the pump. its been too damn cold out to really look at it but I was wondering if anybody knew any more info on this so I have a better idea of what to do, Im used to a basic 350 in fact the day I bought my '80 it was stripped of the emissions crap. If anyone has info it would be greatly appreciated.
ok I ordered the air pump delete pully and bracket from GM parts direct I hope this solves the problem with the air pump open in the back like it is makes it sound like I have a nasty exhaust leak.
Uhh,,,I was talking about the A/C delete pulley, not AIR. The AIR pump you can remove and still keep the A/C compressor in the car. Only if you don't want A/C and wanna get rid of the compressor, do you need the delete pulley.
