can i use a gear drive for an older model block, in a 88 block, im not using a roller cam, im using a hydraulic.

Also, does anyone know anything about proform gear drives, good - bad.

the block doesn't really matter it's the cam that makes the differance. since you don't have a roller cam you could use the gear drive.

most big engine builders laugh at gear drives because of all of the lowend vibrations they transfer to the cam which will create enough cam walk that even a cam button will not help you. i would stick with an edlebrock double roller timing chain or something similar. they are generally cheaper too.

Gear drive = monkey-spank for young children who haven't discovered going fast yet, kind of like glass-packs

True roller (not $20 "roller") timing chain = decent street setup

Belt drive = professional

Don't bother with it, it's wasted money, slows the car down. Get a Comp 3100 timing set.

kevin you'd be crazy not to use a hyd roller..... they are a better cam all the way aroud plus you have a block made for it so the cost is already built in........ yea they are more but a whole ot better than a flat tappet hyd.....
