Pontiac engine block questions

Hey guys,

I know a lot of stuff about the chevy engines v8's v6's bbcs and sbcs but i recently found out i dont know much about the pontiac engines. I was under the impression that the were essentially the same as thier chevy counterparts but i was wrong. So heres my questions to you guys ... Whats the differences between a chevy 400 and a pontiac 400? and whats the difference between the chevy 454 and the pontiac 455? Does anyone have any hp / tourque readings for these engines? pictures would be great too. I was thinking of a pontiac 455 with a 6-pack crammed in an 84 Trans am ,is this possible? My plans would definately involve ripping out the computer and all.

Thanks

Pontiac and chevy engines are completely different they share nothing incommon! Pontiac varies displacement by changing the bore because they as have a 3.75" stroke excluding the 301 and 455. Chevy motors are all over the place with different bores and strokes.

That should tell you most of what you want to know. Anything else, just ask.

Pontiac only has one block for all their engines, no BB or SB only a block. That is except for the 301, which is a short deck.
