Hot cam question

Hello, I was just wondering if the springs that come with the LT4 hotcam will fit into stock L98 heads without machining. Also how do you know if springs will interchange? Can a dual spring go in the place of a single spring if they have the same diameter? Also how much lift can stock L98 heads handle? I know that the hot cam has .492 lift with 1.5 rockers, so maybe my stock head could support that. Any information would be appreciated.

I do not belive the LT4 springs will fit inside the spring socket on the stock heads. the L98 head has a max lift of about .460 I think. Installing the LT4 springs is a must for the hot cam.

The LT4 springs are bigger in diameter than the stock L98 stock spring pockets, so you'd have to have them cut for the bigger springs.

You don't HAVE to use those particular springs. You just need a set of springs that can handle the lift of the cam etc.

I see alot of posts saying the stock iron L98 heads can't handle anything over .490 or so lift without getting seal / retainer clearance issues, but with the correct springs AND retainers, you shouldn't see any problems...although I would STILL measure the clearance just to be on the safe side.

Go over to www.competitionproducts.com and browse through their catalog. They carry a set of springs, lock and retainers that will work in your cylinder head WITHOUT cutting for bigger diameter springs (which means NOT having to pull the heads to install the cam you want ).

Email their tech support # if you have your doubts, and for pt# recommendations.
