If you're going to go to all the labor of a V-8 swap, there is little sense in installing a 305 unless you get one that is absolutely new and completely free of charge. Performance parts are more expensive and less common, limitations will always make you kick yourself, and any increase in fuel economy is minimal or non-existant.

You know that you can buy a complete new 350 SBC for less than $1,500.00, right? that's minus an intake and accessories, but with a factory warranty. Unless you're going to get all the "goodies" with a $1,000 buildup, you may want to do a little shopping.
