sensor? i dont know

hello all i have a 1984 trans am with the 305 ho with carb. i am trying to restore it and i have run into a problem and cant seem to find any answers so ill try you guys. there are two sensor above the thermostat that i need to replace but i dont know what they are and i would like to find out what they are before i take them out the car. the two sensors are to the piece that covers the thermostat. any help would be welcome.

most likely thermal vacuum switch and not a senser. migth be a sender for a gauge or fan switch. sorry i don't know for sure about your car.

The one with the smaller threads is the coolant temp sensor for the computer. The other one is the thermal vacuum switch for the EFE (heat riser valve).

thanks been trying to find out what those where for a while the wires are broken on both of those. could that cause a problem?

Yes.

The CTS has wires, the other does not; it only has vacuum lines.

Here's how the vacuum lines hook up on that motor. The piece in question is the EFE TVS.
