Cam Good for TPI or not?

I have a 350 block from a 73 vette I'm rebuilding...

.040" over, crank turned...

Would a 214/224 @.050" cam be good?? Running around .500" total lift? I know a TPI engines run best when shifted from 5400-5600 RPM...and max horses at 4750-4850 RPM. But does this cam maximize on this? Or limit me?

An article about making a TPI run 12s used a 212/226 @.050" cam. It also said they had 0.515/0.555 inch intake and exhaust lift with 1.6:1 rockers arms. It worked for them...enough to get a 12.3 quarter anyway. :hail: (it was combined with a lot of other upgrades including and not limited to suspension...but that part is later, it takes doing one step at a time )

I was also wondering if I could achieve the same lift numbers that they did....should I tell the machine shop to go .040" over or a different amount?

Thanks to everyone for the help!

Probably if you ask on the TPI board they could help you more.

But with a fuel injected engine it is IMPORTANT to have a wider Lobe Separation Angle (LSA) than with carbs, because that will produce the good strong vacuum signal your FI sensors need. Look for something in the neighbourhood of 114*.

It all depends... what other parts are going to be installed? ie. heads, headers, carb(?), intake manifold(?), rockers...

Before any of us could give you a good answer, we'd need to have a little more info on the build.

That cam sounds like TPIS's ZZ9 cam, same cam I have in my 383. They designed it specifically for TPI motors. 214/224 sounds like a good duration for a TPI motor, but remember, there is more to a cam than the simple lift, duration, and lsa specs, like valve opening and closing specs as well. So another cam may or may not do as well as the ZZ9, even if it has similar lift and duration specs.
