Depending on gearing you don't need to be in overdrive unless you are driving over 100mph while racing. For regular driving you should keep the shifter in 'overdrive' to get better mileage unless you are in stop and go traffic.
You just have to look at it like 'drive' is 3rd gear and 'overdrive' is 4th gear.

exactly...overdrive just lets teh motor cruise at higher speeds with lower rpms...thus better mileage

well if your drag racing..you should hav eenough load on the motor that wit would never get into od anyway

it does not matter, if you have it to the floor it goes through each gear and it will never see OD unless you go that fast, and most of the 700r4s won't let you in 4th with the throttle wide open
