Stripped Manifold Bolt

As I was torquing up the intake manifold bolts, final step on bolt four..........

SSSLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPP

Without removing the heads, can I safely tape a larger thread bolt?

man that sucks did you strip the bolt or thehole? if its not totally fried you might be able to chase the threads with a tap if totally gone you probaly can drill and tap a new hole but thats going to throw a lot of metal in your engine i don't think its worth the risk but.........

Definitely the hole. I tried using a longer bolt, no luck. Someone else had suggested using a helicoil, but said that I'd have to remove the intake either way.

Taking the intake off isn't that big of a deal.........just kinda sick of it!

Yeah, Heli-coil is the way to go...

If it's one of the 4 end ones, you may be able to do it with the intake in place, since those holes are blind. If it's any of the others, they all go directly into the crankcase; so you don't want to be drilling on it without being able to catch the chips.

It was one of the middle ones, but one of the end ones feels soft. When I take the manifold off I'm nervous that it won't torque down the second time.

Just do them all... it's like $.25 and 5 minutes per hole.... just do it and be done with it

Should I use a helicoil that will allow me to use the same size bolt (3/8" thread I think)?

I would think so, but I'm not sure.

That's the point of them in the first place.... everything else still fits right
