Hi. Didn't know where I should put this so I put it here. I need you guys' opinion. I'm going to refresh my motor next week and I only have the money to either put a new cam in or put a pair of headers on. The engine is a stock 305 (L69). If I go with a cam, I'm not going to a radical one because it's a daily driver.

Sooo, which one will I notice the most improvment on? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

 

Headers.

Get some one of the ones that's chassis-specific, such as Edelbrock TES or SLP. Eother of those will absolutely bolt right up to your car, motor and exhaust like it was meant to, without any rigging or anything. Don't go the cheap way and get generic headers and then try to have something fabbed up at the local shop. It will end up costing the same or more, and give you far more trouble in the long run.

Definitely consider getting whatever you get coated by Jet-Hot or similar. It lowers under-hood temps dramatically. everything non-metallic under there will last much longer. Again, it looks like alot of money, but is probably actually much cheaper in the long run.

 

I would go with the cam first. When you say "refresh" do you mean rebuild, overhaul? I take it to mean you are rebuilding the engine. If so you probably plan on taking it apart, cleaning, whole nine yards. If thats the case it is much easier to do a cam swap now than once it is put back in the car. I definately think you will notice a new cam even if it is mild street performance cam. You can always put headers on 'er later.

 

Go with a cam now and headers later when you get some more $$!
