Breaking in (differences)

I ask this because I seee some differences in opinions. First of all Chilton says to drive for 500 miles change oil and then drive 1500 miles change oil and the engine isall good to go.
whereas right here: http://216.121.161.76/files/BreakIn.pdf is stated that you only need to drive for 500 miles change the oil and that's it! you don't have to do 1500 miles more, you're ok after this first stage.
I give these 2 sources cause the first one is a repair manual and the 2nd was used by VADER.
I'm not saying anything about the initial starting and first miles on the engine cause I did not rebuild it by myself.
I'm just concerned about how long I have to break it in later.
so what are your opinions?

Let it run at about 2500 RPM for 15 min, then let it cool down, redo step one, then let it run for about 30 min, change the oil and your done.

The engine remanufacturer we use at work requires an oil change at 500miles.. After that change as normal. That's usually what I do on my motors too. To be totally safe you should also change the oil after the first 1/2 hr brake in period. This is to remove any prelubes that may have been used.. Some of the moly prelubes will plug the oil filter up fast.

start it with 30w dino juice, let it run at least 1500 rpm up to 4500 or so, vary the load and i like to let it heat and cool at least one time. after 30 minutes or so i change the oil again with 30w dino then again at 3000 and switch to synthetic. it's good to have timing light hooked up and ready to use, distributor hold down loose, wrench handy.

at this moment I'm done with my first 500 miles on the engine. my question is about later procedure. what should I do next? keep on breaking it in for 1500 miles more, change oil and I'm done OR am I done right now

I'd change oil now. IF your motor has a flat tappet cam use dino oil again for the next 3000miles. After that go ahead and put synthetic in if you want to. If its a roller motor you should be fine putting synthetic in now.

You're probably OK for synth either way. I'd just play it safe myself

I've read most of the threads on this forum regarding break in, but there are so many contradictory statements that I'm not quite sure what to trust. For instance, after the 500 mile break in period is it ok to do some WOT passes? Or should you save that for MUCH later?

I've got a roller block and want to switch to synthetics as soon as possible. Just don't know when that is.
