Ticking noise....
Hey everyone
just installed a mini starter, and now there is a ticking noise coming from the flywheel area.... Do youthink I didn't shim it properly? should I add another shim?
any help would be appreciated.

Some come with two shims, one goes between the starter and the mount (has three holes in it I believe), the other (round one) goes between the front bearing and the mount. Be sure to install both of them or you'll only be moving the starter motor back and not the gear. They are about .060" thick. It's not recommended to shim the gear farther back than that according to the directions with mine. Anyway, that took care of my problem.
Just to clarify, I'm not talking about the shims between the starter and the block. That's to get the proper mesh. I"m talking about shims that move the starter toward the front of the car, leaving more clearence between the gear and the flywheel teeth while the engine is running.
