How hard is it to install a new guage cluster?

I aquired a 145mph speedo cluster for free and I was wondering how hard it is to swap out. Also once swapped will it be accurate or will it be off some?

Should be accurate.

I can swap out the dash cluster in my car in less than 20 minutes. Yours is electroinc, should be a bit faster.

all my guages are electronic besides the speedo. I still have the gear driven one. Its the same exact cluster as mine but the speedo goes to 145 instead of 115. Im giving my buddy the 115 for his 87 he just bought. His 87s speedo only goes to 85. Ill probably try to install it tomorrow when i get it since the car doesnt run at the moment.

unhooking the speedo cable from the back of the speedo is the only hard part. Some people can pull the speedo out far enough to reach behind it. I'm not so fortunate. I need to contort myself with my head jammed against the gas pedal so I can reach up above the fuse box and unplug it from the back of the speedo. Once you reach up there you'll feel the tab on the end of the cable. You've got to depress the tab and pull on the cable at the same time.

Everything else is cake.

If you have cruise control, unplug the upper speedo cable from the cruise regulator, and push a little of it into the firewall; that will give you some slack so that what Jim is talking about won't be a problem.

That appears to be whats holding it in at the present time. The rest is unhooked.

Ok now I have another problem. Something is up. I had the radio on and the window down while i was disconneting the cluster. Well it started to rain. The window wouldnt roll up. I was like oh crap and the ignition wasnt working or anything. Well the fusable link running to the soleniod was fried. I stuck a wire in place and managed to get the window up before it fried again.

Could something have came off the back of the cluster and grounded?? Would the tranny electronics being disconnected have something to do with this? The tranny isnt hooked up at all.
Headers are disconnected also and laying near the fusable links but i dont think thats it.

Any help would be appreciated.
