Who has eliminated the oil cooler?

Who has removed the oil cooler and what was involved? How much does the cooler actually help? Thanks

Gary

I often wonder myself if it is an oil cooler or an oil heater!

Why would you want to remove the oil cooler. It is there to protect your engine so that it will hopefully last a little longer.

never done it, but i'd guess it's just a matter of plugging a few lines and tightening a few hose clamps. you have the one where coolent is flowed to the oil filter right? pretty silly design if you ask me, but then again i'm no automotive engineer. my old chevy truck and gmc jimmy have oil coolers in the radiator and the jimmy has remote oil filter, lot better design.

Some did. I believe the G92s came with them.

I am on my car because the lines interfere with the 8" damper on the motor, later I am going to put a real oil cooler on it.
If you want to remove all of it you just unbolt the oil cooler adapter from the block, pull the filter off and you will see how to do it. Also there is an oil filter adapter under the oil cooler so you can screw the filter back on, you have to switch around how the coolant is rooted, but that is just 2 lines.

Thanks guys. My main reasoning is the Edelbrock TES is right up against the frame and the coolers lines. I'm going to use the TES with this new combo and probably switch over to a set of long tube headers. Here's hoping for some high 11 time slips!!

I got rid of mine, didn't seem too effective. I see it as one less place for coolant to leak.

I went ahead and removed it tonight. I got tired of fighting the two lines where it attached to the housing . The Edelbrock TES header drops down right at that point and caused the flange to ride right against the frame. Only thing left is to do is drop in the distributor and superram tomorrow and maybe fire this new 383 up. It's almost done, finally!! Thanks again for the input guys.

Coupled with G92 after 1986 IIRC.
