Fan Temp Sensor?

During an engine change, I broke the sensor lead (1 wire) for my fan temp sensor. It was brittle from being too close to the exhaust manifold.

This sensor is on the passenger side rear head, above the knock sensor.

I asked gmpartsdirect.com to give me a part number for it, but they sent me a knock sensor lead (and charged me like crazy for s/h).

Question:
Is this sensor actually for the fan temp sensor? That is what I learned from searches (I believe). I went to a parts store and they tried to sell me a dual lead sensor- like the one that goes on the front of the intake manifold for coolant temp. They said it is the "replacement" part.

Also: does anyone have the GM part number for this part?

You're help is appreciated- as always.

I just bought one today from carquest. It was 10.xx with tax. I was putting in the dipstick and header on that side and cracked the top of it off. Carquest part# TS82.

yes the sensor is the fan switch, and I'm not sure of the gm part number but you can get the switch from autozone for about $9.

That's probably because you're calling it a "sensor". It's a "switch". It turns something ON or OFF. Sensors are connected to computers. Senders are connected to gauges.

Yup, its a switch... it should only have 1 wire going to it. Its not too hard to change... i've done it 3 times in the last 2 weeks, so i know

I broke the plastic part of the wire hrness on mine, so I just jammed the metal plug on the wire into the hole. Works great! Matt

I don't even use the sensor anymore, I wired it up to a switch on my counsel.

As I mentioned, they were no lonoger supplting the original sensor lead I was looking for. They said it was being replaced with a 2 wire lead and matching sensor due to problems with grounding.
