egr valve?

ok ever since i've had my car the engine has been making a pinging sound (like marbles rolling around) and a few weeks ago i brought it to a mechanic to have the master cylender replaced so i had them check the noise as well, and they said part of the reason for the noise was the timing was off, so they fixed the timing, and they also said that there was still a little bit of pinging because the egr valve is bad, they didnt replace it because they said that the car might have hesitation during acceleration from a stop. my questions are how does a bad egr valve make the engine ping (i've noticed that it will ping alot louder and more often during normal driving after i race someone) and my other question is why would it have hesitation if i were to replace the egr valve. i just wanna get it fixed because little things like this **** me off. thanks in advance for any help.

I am having the same problem with my firebird right now. If you figure this out please let me know. I agree with you, why should a new one make the engine to hesitate on take off, thats where most of my power comes from is off the lineand I dont want to sacrafice my take off because of a little ping.

Well I decided to take mine to my mechanic today and he looked at it and noticed that the vaccum line had been taken off and a bolt put in the hose so he hooked it up and put it on a machine and it kept coming back (code 33) so he said I should replace it. I ask him about the hesitation thing and he said that he couldnt see why a new EGR valve would make it hesitate. So Im going to replace it this weekend. I will let you know how it turns out.

There is no reason why a new EGR valve would make a car hesitate...

Just replace it. They're cheap. Shouldn't make your car hesitate though. Matt
