Where is the oil sending unit?

Where is the oil sending unit on my 350 TPI? My oil pressure is constantly pegged on the high side. Experence with other cars has always been the oil sending unit sensor thing. Where is it on my engine? Matt

check on the rear china wall. it should be sticking out just to the right of the distributer right behind the intake. Its a big bell shaped sensor.

Oil Pressure sender

The oil pressure sender is just above your oil filter. Be carefull when you remove it many of them are screwed into a brass elbow for clearance reasons if you apply to much force you may break the fitting. Trust me you do not want to have to replace that too. Spray it with BP Blaster a few times B4 you take it off. You may need to use one of those short "stubby" wrenches as there is not alot of room down there.

The unit on top of the engine between the firewall and the distributor is the oil pressure switch. This is connected to your fuel pump relay circuit and turns off the pump when there is no oil pressure (like after the engine stalls)

Yes and no.

In 87, there was a single wire oil pressure sender mounted on the china wall, and a two wire oil pressure switch (for the fuel pump) mounted above the oil filter.

In 88, they integrated both into a 3 wire unit and mounted it above the oil filter.

I FEEL LIKE A COMPLETE RETARD!

i'm tryin to find the oil pressure sending unit... the bell shaped one on my 89 IROC... so it's pretty much not there... i'm looking to install the fitting for the autometer mech. oil pressure guage... so i'm guessing that it's one of the holes above the oil filter?

the 89 cars didn't use the bell shaped oil pressure sender. They used the long black one that is right above the oil filter.
