serpentine setup interchangability??
serpentine setup interchangability??
hi,
i was wondering anything special with the serpentine belt setup?as in,reverse flow radiator and stuff like that, manily what im getting at,is im watch a auction on ebay, for the brackets and pulleys off a serpentine belt setup, and wondering if i could just stick those pulleys on my acc. and those brackets on my engine,or what all will interchange,i have the acc. on a 86 z28,with the "SO CALLED" serpentine system, although also has v-belts,thanks.

Serpentines didn't start showing up until '88.
Although some of the pullies look similar (ribbed), they still won't fit, as their about 1 rib too narrow for a serpentine belt.
The rest have a narrow v-groove which definitely isn't interchangable.

I might not be understand you either, but are you asking can you just change out the pullies on to your acc. and then run a serpentine belt.
If so, I pretty sure that won't work. You'll have some serious alignment problems with the belt I'd imagine, plus not sure how you'd route it.
If your asking can you place your acc. into the serpentine brackets and change the pullies, I don't think the compressor or alternator will work, you will have to get 88+ model.
I'm pretty sure on this, if I'm wrong, someone correct me.

Do you want to convert to a real serpentine setup? If you have a single long belt, that's a serpentine belt. If you have more than one belt that are running in ones or twos off of the crank pulley, that's a v-belt setup, even if one of the belts are ribbed.
If you do [want to convert], then you need the accessories specifically for that setup.
The alternator is clocked differently (different bolthole locations), the air pump, PS pump, and AC compressors are all completely different, the water pump spins the opposite direction... You can't just bolt the pullies onto your old style acc. and go.
