spark plug gap

any one know what gap I should use for a stock big cap HEI with carbed 357 w/ about 10:1 comp.?? I know that a stock TBI was .035 and I know the .040 I'm running now is causing it to misfire severely. I just don't know weather to run .030 or .035. I'm confused!!!!
Help!!!

.030 to .045 should work, the gap may not be the cause of your problem

.035 is probably the way to go, if you don't have an ignition box.

I have recently changed from .045 back to .035.

well it's sota cured the issue, but it still wants to die when it's warm, in gear, and idleing. I'm gonna double check the timing and idle mixture and see ifI can't get this to run better. BTW-new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and ign. module. The only thing I haven't replaced is the damn pick-up coil. Oh well.

When I changed plugs a couple eyars ago they came pre gapped at .045 I just put them in and it ran fine, then I looked at the underhood sticker that said .035 Ok I pulled em regapped em at .035 and it ran worse and lost about 2mpg. So i compremised and gapped em at .040 and it ran fine. Two weeks ago I pulled them out after 40,000 miles and they had no visible wear and the color looked perfect. Since I had 40k on them I put in a new set in. I'm using Autolite platnium AP26. Oh yeah it's a 305 TPI all factory Ign w/ new cap, rotor, wires. 117k miles.
