Odd chevy problem???

(Forgive me mods, its about a blazer) picked up a 82 K5 blazer the other day, with a 6.2 L diesel engine. The problem with it is where the starter bolts to the block, the block has cracked, so only one bolt holds the starter on, and it is not enough to keep it there when trying to start the engine. I still have the piece, can it or possably the starter be welded back on so I can start the thing?

I wonder if this has happened on any other 6.2 L blocks. Seems like an odd thing to happen. Thanks,

If its like a small block starter, there is the straight bolt type and the staggered bolt type. If its a staggered bolt type that you have, you can probably drill the block and use a straight bolt starter, like was done on my 350.
