Valve Spring Recommendation
Valve Spring Recommendation
On my kid's 88 GTA with stock 5.7L engine, we plan to go after the valve stem seals soon. Typical smoke haze on start up. The engine has 50K miles. The kid is asking the question, should we maybe freshen up the valve springs as long as we are there. So, does anyone have a recommendation? More specifically, if we replace springs with a stock type, is there a prefrence in brand. GM's or what? On other brands of engines, I replaced springs that were probably OK. I just bought them ahead of time, so I did it. When I checked the old factory springs for rate, they were fine. So, for any recommendation, part number, price, & source would be helpful.

I wouldn't replace them unless I knew they had been compromised. By compromised I mean subjected to valve float.
That can weaken them significantly.

I would replace them. Why not? It's money well spent IMO.
If you go to www.enginekits.com , on the left side, third item down are these......
Z28 springs to .490 lift (16) $23.95
IIRC, they're stock 1.25" OD, so they're drop right in. And for ~$25, how could you go wrong?
You'll have to call them to get the exact specs on them, like seat pressure, etc.
