internal coil to an external coil

internal coil to an external coil

i have an internal coiled hei and i want to convert it to an external. can i do this? is it just a cap or what is all entailed in it?

I believe you'll have to change the connector to the distributor cap, or adapt the primary connections to the external coil. Obviously, the cap and rotor will have to be changed, unless you want to install the MSD modifird HEI dust cover/adapter (P/N 8401). They're about $28 and complete the HV circuit for a separate coil to a standard HEI distributor.

so its possible to go from int. coil to ext. coil but is that true vise versa?? I would like to put a large cap dist in my maro that is a 92 Would this be possible with just splicing?

hey thanks vader. i was looking for something like that. are there any pros and cons to doing this. i was looking for something a little more attractive to my engine that the funky looking internal coil cap as to why i was wanting to switch to external.

cons: your wire terminals will be closer and you will have more of a chance of ionazation and crossfire inside the cap, Large cap is better performance but the small cap ext. coil does look better.
