The ol' bird doesnt like to start
i am having some difficulty starting my 88 t/a. when i try, it usally stalls the first time, and the fires on the second try. it runs great but when it stalls, the service engine light goes on. the only code in the memory is 51-PROM error. also it seems like it is taking longer to start every time. ive heard of this problem before but cant quite remember what the fix is for it. any help would be great thanks.
The SES turning on when the engine stalls is completely normal - the same as when the ignition is first turned on.
Clear you error codes and try it again. If the code persists, disconnect the battery, remove the ECM, and check the CALPAK. Make sure the carrier is completely seated in the socket. Thermal cycles can cause the connections to separate (thermal creep).
