hesitation

I am in need of an opinion. I just bought an 87 GTA and I have noticed that if I give it WOT off the line it will hesitate for a bit, actually as if I were just taking off normally. Then after a few seconds it will pick up and get after it like it should. Also, on the highway I can be cruising along in overdrive at about 75 or 80 and if I try to give it more gas, say half pedal, it will hesitate and borderline surge. I have a few ideas of what could be causing all this, but I thought I would see what you guys thought before I start doing anything. Thanks for your time.

i had this problem, and about 12 sensors and $200 later, i decided to change the spark plugs. #8 had apparently never been changed, and that fixed it. it helps when all cylinders are firing. since you just bought it, try doing a tune up.

yeah, I planned on changing the plugs and wires, cap and rotor, and putting a new fuel filter in it. It probably needs all those things anyway. I was just curious if someone, like yourself, had run into the same problem and knew something I didnt. thanks for the info though.
