I remember when my friend bought an MSD 6A about 10 years ago, and both of us decided to do a before and after check of the spark. It was our first time ever looking at such a "device", and we weren't disappointed when we saw how much fatter the spark was.
Fast forward to about 4 years ago when my MSD 6AL shorted out on me when I was right outside this local speed shop ready to go home. It was still under warranty, so the parts guy told me to undo the MSD and drive home to get my receipt. The drive home included a 20min ride on the freeway, and I drove "normally" realizing that this would be a good time to "feel" the car's driveability without the MSD.
Anyways, to make a long story short, after 2 trips on the highway without the MSD, and another trip back home after reinstalling the new MSD that I had gotten from the warranty, I have to say that it was a good piece of investment

Personal experiences may vary, but on a properly tuned stock engine, it probably wouldn't make much of a difference. You'd likely see more benefit on an engine that high-RPMs or with high cylinder pressures.
