Help...oil pressure

I bought this car about 2 weeks ago. It didn't have great oil pressure, but, it wasn't bad. Then today I was heading to get it legal and I noticed I was only running about 15lbs. of press. And when I'd come to a stoplight it would drop to nothing! Well I put full synthetic in it and I was told it could be that: going from regular 10w30 to full synthetic. So I drained it and put in some regular stuff after work today. It ran fine at first so I headed home and cleaned up. Came back out to go some food and it was doing the same thing all over again!!?? Is this my sending unit or is it the pump Any help is very appreciated. Thanks.

since the cheapest solution is usually the one to start with, either get it checked with a reliable mechanical gague or change the sender unit (it's pretty easy, since it generally has some oil near the threads it rarely seizes up). i think i got a sender last year for about $24 at autozone.

Car: 1989 IROC-1
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700r4
Putting the pump in is a more work than replacing the sending unit though.

you need to look else where for the sending unit. more then likely that is the problem. I would change this first. had the same problem, fixed it by replacing the sending unit.
