harmonic balancer?

Do our cars have a harmonic balancer ?

Sounds rather exotic for a 92 camaro rs 305 tbi as opposed to an audi tt.

i know what they do, my dealer said the vibration/shake i feel at idle may be caused by a faulty one.

i also hear a ticking nosie from the a/c compressor. when i floor it, with the a/c on hi power, the fan slooows down to barely lo power then blows hi again when i let off thew gas.

ay ideas? could the be related?

thanks

yep, your car has one. nothing exotic about it. Just a cast iron hoop supported by a band of rubber whose sole purpous is to dampen out any torsional harmonics in the crank. I doubt the shake at idle is due to a bad balancer unless it came apart or something. Probably another unrelated issue. From what you describe, it sounds like the compressor is toast. Mine did that along with cycling on and off because all the refrigerent + lubricant leaked out. Short wile later it siezed up completly and smoked the serpintine belt. Id get that a/c compressor looked at in a hurry. Sounds like the compressor is seizing up at high rpms and is causing the belt to slip.
