Is this a serpentine system? Do they really give you back that many ponies? How much of a pain in the a** is it to convert?

They make ones for V-belt set ups too. What they are is just a set of smaller pullies (usually crank and alternator, sometimes water pump) and they turn slower and take less horsepower to turn. My dad told me that it takes about 8 horsepower to drive each OE belt, with the smaller pullies, it takes less.

Also, you want to make sure that the alt pulley and the crank pulley are the same ratio size as OEM (ex: if OEM is alt. = 5", crank = 10". Then aftermarkets should be alt. = 4" and crank = 8"). Otherwise you could have charging problems.

I got a Mach 25% underdrive crank pulley and it gave me a good amount more ooomph above 3000 rpms. Since I upgraded the alt a few years back, I don't have any charging problems. Besides, how long do you really spend under 1000 rpms?

My main problem is that I now have cooling problems. I can't be positive if it is simply because of the pulley or if I would have had problems in the summer regardless (installed engine in Dec). My thoughts are that even with a 160C thermostat, high volume water pump, and dual electric fans, I still need to go with a bigger radiator. There must be a difference between the stock LG4 radiator and what came on later models...

BTW- It is a simple mod. The biggest pita was to loosen and re-tighten the belts...
