Simple timing question

If you are at TDC for the #1 cylinder and you rotate the crank clockwise 360º what cylinder will be at it's firing position?

Also, before I dropped my distibutor in I had the #6 cylinder at it's compression stroke (I checked when I had the heads off). When I dropped the distributor back in couldn't I just place the wires so that the rotor is between the #6 & #5 plug wires and continue clockwise from there (7,2,1,8,4,3)? This should get me in the ballpark right? Is this an extremely easier way than rotating the crank for #1 TDC (My socket broke) or am I missing something?

You should be at number 6. Sounds like it should work. I know what you mean about rotating the crank tho, PITA. You could just tap it until you get it close and then turn it the rest of the way (small amount) with your hands if your strong enough, that worked for me and my dad.
