Bloody choke, BAH!!!

Welp, for some reason or another my carb doesn't want to kick out of it's fast idle for like 20mins of running. After 20mins, I have to shut it off, then restart it to grab that healthy 750RPM I love with my lumpy cam.
I'm quite the novice when it comes to carb tinkering, or actually pretty much anything in general. =P Sitting at intersections with your car revving at like 1200RPM I find annoying considering it's a fairly loud engine. It used to kick down immediately by giving it a little gas, but no more.

What needs to be adjusted here? I have the electronic Q-Jet, and it's an 83 305LG4.

While I'm here, what can be done to improve shifting? I have the T-5 transmission (200,000km on it too) and it seems a little sloppy when I wanna really get on it and rip through the gears. I really have to engage the clutch quite consciously, wait a good .5 sec before ripping it into second or else it'll grind like a bastard. I guess the 1-2 shift is the only bitch, and likewise the 3-2 downshift.

Thanks guys.

Two things: first, check for sticking choke blades, second check the throttle kicker in front of the throttle lever on the carb for proper operation(there is a relay associated with the kicker located on the driverside fire-wall.
