msd ignition

i was wondering if you guys could help me find the right setup for my motor(specs in sig). the motor is breaking up when you aply a steady load to it. i have new plugs and new wires. i was thinking about about going with msd products. i was thing about their blaster coil. do i have to get a box to go with that coil. i really don't know to much about this stuff. i did a search so i read up on this stuff. how much money should i expect to pay for a coil and a box. any suggestions would be great. thanks alot.

I'm running full MSD Ignition and I'm pretty impressed with it.

No you don't have to run the box with that MSD coil. But I run the box anyways for a cleaner burn and the addition of a rev limiter.

The box is $195 I beleive and the coil is around $32.

what box and coil are you running. i think it would be a good idea to get the box as well as the coil.

I am running the MSD-6AL box with MSD SuperConductor 8.5mm wires, MSD cap + rotor, and the GM Blaster coil.

Since yours is an '84, you will need a different coil than mine (yours will have to be MSD's cylinder shaped Blaster 2 coil).

Nope ya don't need the MSD Cap and rotor. I just bought full MSD ignition because my old stuff was junk, and MSD is a nice quality product.

You could run a 6AL box with the stock ignition if you wanted to, but why not just upgrade the whole thing ya know??

Good luck!

exactly. thats what I said to myself. why have a weak kink in the system. I had the oppurtunity to see an MSD box and coil work on a test box in a speed shop today and I gotta say it is such a difference between the stock and MSD box. this MSD tester shows how a stock ignition spark starts to fail at higher RPMs then he hit the switch over to the MSD box and OMG it was like going from static electriticity in your clothes to a lightning bolt in the sky.
MSD does sell an HEI kit if your car has a coil mounted on top of the dist. they also have a plug that allows you to use the MSD boxes with your stock external coil w/o having to cut your factory plugs off.
