The ZZ4 is very nice, and it will bolt up to your 85 setup. However the heads dont have EGR, so you wont pass smog if that is a problem in your state.

I put the 350 ho on my 85 tpi ta, however, i also changed the cam to the zz4 roller cam and i love it. it gives pritty good bang for the buck. i would go with the zz4 if i were to do it again, even more bang, but even more buck.

I need to pass a smog test. However, they don't do a visual inspection. they only do the sniffer test at a local garage. i have it poretty much narrowed down to the ZZ4, 350HO or the 92-93 caprice engine. decisions decisions....

You have a couple of options. If you pick up a Corvette EGR valve, you can run a tube from one manifold to the valve to operate the EGR if you wish to run a ZZ4.
To use the 350HO, you'll have to wait until the vortec TPI base comes out in October, and you'll still have to run a tube, but the base has provisions for that.
The Caprice motor will require an 87' up intake base, and the cam is a little lamer than the L98
If you look in the index section of SDPC2000 under F-body and then crate engines, there are 3 hidden there.
1.) stock L98 with zz4 rotating assmebly ($2100)
2.) H.O L98 with L31(vortec) cam and 285hp(no swirl ports) heads, ZZ4 rotating assembly ($2400)
3.) H.O L98 with Edelbrock Aluminum heads and everything mentioned in #2 ($2700)
These 3 will require an 87' and later lower base.
